A River

So this is kind of a continuation of a set that I had of river pictures. They actually came out well!
if you can capture the essence of what you see its all the better. Now my aim for this picture was to see if you could actually get a decent image from little sun and I guess my point was proven. This was taken with my SLR and is a wonderful way to portray what it can do! I must say with all of my observations i have made, I am one of the few people who actually like what they do and stick with it. Meaning I love my pictures I take. I don't mean to sound arrogant or self centered but I don't see the harm in liking something you do, am I wrong?
Again I like to show the beauty of the river I like to go to relax or even skip rocks!
Oh yeah and I just wanted to add that YES I AM finally updating just so everyone knows. Hope all the pictures are okay cause I know I love them and I will be sure to post more as I get them. Hopefully there will be a nice sunset or picture opportunity for me even though there always is as long as you have a camera and a decent sized memory card ;)

The Art of Saving

A day ago I came up with a real crazy idea for a picture. bttrflykissezzzz and I put the shot together and I think it has a lot of potential. Today I spent 3 hours editing it to produce a work of art, and then the editing program crashed. Three hours and not a single save, how could I be so dumb. Fact is, I didn't realize it was three hours, I was in my "editing zone" and felt like I was only at the computer for 20 min, well except for that really bad neck cramp, and now my eyes hurt a lot.

I use gimp to edit my photos. I can hear all the photoshop pro's laughing now, but in all honesty, when I used photoshop, I did all the same things. I was first introduced to photo editing in a bundled software package with some printer ink. This cheap little program caught my attention and my "fun with editing photos" hunger grew. I took a course in school using photoshop and this is when I got the editing bug. I always look at "fake" photos, and wonder how in gods name do they do it. I know I will never have that talent, and am content to instead, improve on great photos I take, after all, a fake photo can never compare to a real one.

Gimp is free to all and if you've used photoshop, it does take some getting used to. Many people believe in stealing photoshop and using the full blown pro software. Sure with it's excellent RAW support and tons of extra features that I don't know how to use, I could do a few extra things to my photos, but for $1000 or to break the law to get it, I think I'll stick with Gimp.

Now however it has decided to crash and leave me -3 hours in the hole. I will take more time out of my day tomorrow to re-do my photo, but hey, it's not like photoshop has never crashed on me either, just this is the first time Gimp has crashed on me. I wish I had an autosave for gimp, this way when I am in the "zone" again, and forget to save, I won't lose everything, but until then, I will keep playing with gimp and hoping I remember to save.

Outside Stroll

I decided it was time to go outside and get in touch with nature. On my quest I saw a deer, a rabbit, and a cat, all of which will not be appearing in this post, maybe a post for another day though. What I wanted to focus on for this post was plants and one really cool pic of the sky.

All of the pictures came out pretty good, however I felt that a little post manipulation would help out some more.

Yes, Fall is beginning early and if you must know the truth, the yellow and orange leaves are actually dead. They were brown but with the wonder of my computer, they look like they are changing early!

Closer Up to the Leaves!

An Excellent Picture of some ground fauna. I love the color tone and how it compliments the sharpness of the front most leaves. Not trusting auto focus THAT much, I focused this one manually.

Now this picture is simply amazing. I edited these pictures on a CRT screen, and I can assure you that my laptop LCD screen I'm using to post these does not even begin to do justice. I love how the sun seems to be plowing through the clouds.

Both are great

I love them both the same, and thats all that matters. when I'm on the go its nice to have a great small camera. And for the serious "know I'm out to make beauty" pictures I use my SLR you are just jealous that I have one and you don't, lol LOVE YOU! ;)
But I just wanted all to know that I love both of them I am always surprised with how well my little Sony has done though, the quality is amazing and I use it all the time :)
Don't hate the player hate the game, mann!

I love photography in general so no matter what camera I have with me I am thankful for. Because at any moment a good image can pop up and any way you can is good enough.

Bigger = Better

Ok, so I don't have a pretty picture to post right now, I have several in mind but all need some editing before I will be happy with them. I am writing however after reading bttrflykissezzzz post about size not mattering. Her and I constantly fight over how good her Sony DSC-W50 is and it looks like she decided to bring the fight to the net. Now I'm not trying to say Sony, or any compact camera is bad, not at all, in fact they are great cameras, easy to take around and give you very good pictures. I do not believe that they are very good at getting a picture how you imagine it being taken though. In bttrflykissezzzz case, the SLR battery was dead so of course she should use the Sony, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, but when I go to take a picture of something, I want the feel of a nice solid steady camera in my hands, I don't want to feel like I'm taking a picture with a credit card. When using a compact camera, you are saying... 'ok camera, I want you to make all the picture decisions for me.' If you are just trying to take a picture of the sights on your vacation, this may be perfectly fine, it's not like your going to go back and frame at that picture of Hanks Burn and Chill Grill in your living room, but if I'm going to take a picture of something I have seen in my mind already, I would never want to be stuck with a compact camera. I think bttrflykissezzzz would agree with me that there is a major difference in your mindset, performance and picture quality when using the SLR vs. Compact camera, in fact I don't think there are very many people if any at all that disagree with me on that matter, but the blatant attack on SLR cameras with the previous post needed a rant to defend the good name and reputation of SLR's everywhere.

Size doesn't matter

So I was driving in the car on my way up to NH and spotted the sky being beautiful, now as far as I know I keep a camera in my bag at all times but for some reason my SLR was completely out of battery power. As anyone knows you should always have a back-up, I don't. So I was upset and realized I had my trusty Sony with me and was content. So I snapped the picture and did not think anything of it, until just recently. With a tiny bit of touch up work it was as beautiful as I had seen it. The colors seem to be floating together and just seem to go. Now to all you people out there who think that tiny "on the go" cameras can't do squat, I have just proven that mine can do just as well with capturing the moment as any SLR can. :)

Mind you all that this was taken in a city while in a moving vehicle. Just goes to show that if you have the right settings anything is possible.
